DJ Emir live at Dubainight.com podcast!

DJ Emir live at Dubainight.com podcast!

DJ EMIR is one of the few Parisian DJs who deserves to be known.
And Dubainight.com will give you an exclusive details of DJ Emir before and now.

Tell us more about your background?

I start djing 17 years ago in Paris. I had my first gig at a Parisian nightclub named Factory, slowly, I start to have the opportunity to mix outside France. More I was traveling and discovering other culture, more I realize that I wanted to create my own music with my own style. So I start producing.
After that, I moved to Dubai in 2012, I started at LeCirque Du Soir. After two years of residency in differents famous club in the region. I decide to be more independent and create my own artistic crew named: laBLACKlist. With my team, we work in originals concept for venues and brands. It's more about being focused on the creativity and the music aspect. We just try to create something different...

When did you start DJing?

I start in 2 000.

What/who were your early influences?

As a Parisian DJ,  my influences are obviously french! You have hip-hop Djs as Cut killer, Dj Abdel and Dj Mouss. I was also inspired by  Bob Sinclar and Martin Solveig. Because Music has no borders, I get a lot of influence from Dj jazzy Jeff and Dj AM (R.IP).

What's you favorite tune of all time?

That's a tricky question! I can't choose, cause the others tunes will be jealous!
More seriously, it must be a Michael Jackson tune for sure!

What was your first record you bought?

I remember very clearly this moment I went to LA FNAC (famous french record shop). I was determinate to buy just one record and I finish at the cashier with two: Michael Jackson "dangerous" and AC/DC "live". I still have them.

What inspires your music today?

I don't know how to explain what inspire me, cause it could be anything and everything. My main focus is to make my music groovy. If I play it in differents type of venues, I want to be sure that any type of crowd will make some moves...

What are the challenges of being a successful DJ today?

The biggest challenge is to always try to be better than yesterday! The hardest thing is not to reach a certain level but to maintain it and try to reach new goals. Sky's limit...

What do you usually start with when preparing for a set?

I always start to look for some informations about the venues, theme, brand or even the cities where I play.

What defines a good crowd for you?

A good crowd is people dancing without caring.

Why do you think so few women DJ?

That's true that "icon" DJs have always been mostly male, but I see more and more female DJs.

What advice would you give to aspiring female DJs?

I'll give the same advice that I will say for a male Dj;
" Always have fun, love what you do, be curious, open mind and most important stay humble"

Where do you think the scene is headed? One year from now? Five years from now?

Musically the scene is improving. I don't think there will be big changes in one year. In five years, I can tell that the industry and artistic vibes will be different for sure! We are going into more edgy music era.

Tell us more about your upcoming projects and gigs?

I have so many projects as dj EMIR but also with laBLACKlist.
With the team, we create a uber-cool living room pop-up inside the Level Shoes department store in The Dubai Mall: LeBLACKsofa. Every weekend, from 4 pm to 8 pm we will invite our friends to perform with us. We want to get back to the technical DJ gig, so we use turntables and we are trying also to push conversation around music, art, sneakers and much more. You can follow the experience in our Instagram page or simply #YouCanSitWith us at leBLACKsofa!
From my side, as DJ Emir, I continue producing and explore my music. I'm trying to share a new mix every month on my platforms and of course, you can found me in different venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Paris, Doha, NYC and much more countries during the year.
