Shimmers

An open-air, Mediterranean restaurant set just metres from the sea, in the shadow of the Burj Al Arab, this beach eatery has been rightly, if quietly, popular for years. And not just for its beautiful setting – despite sitting on some increasingly prime real estate, Shimmers remains accessible in both price and menu offerings. Dishes range from fresh salads to beautifully grilled seafood and thin, crisp pizzas, without the prevailing sense of fuss, frills or faff of a celebrity chef association or fine-dining aspirations. Whether for a special occasion or midweek bite to eat, Shimmers is relaxed, charming beach dining at its best.
Open daily noon-4.30pm, 7pm-11.30pm 04 366 6730  Mina A'Salam, Madinat Jumeirah - Umm Suqeim

La Petite Maison, DIFC

The home of Cuisine Nicoise, whose origins lie in old Genoese cooking, is the old town of Nice where French Mediterranean cuisine has blended and evolved with the influences of Ligurian Italy across the border. Local produce, notably artichokes, courgettes, lemons, olives, tomatoes, peppers and girolles are used generously with sea food, meat and fresh pasta to produce a style that’s light and healthy. Oil obtained from olives groves on the hills of the Alpes Maritimes behind Nice and extending into Liguria is used throughout.
DIFC (04 439 0505).
