Few artists have left such an indelible mark on pages of electronic music and club culture as Sven Väth. The German artist has a most enviable career in the music industry that began with his first forays in to electro pop which then lead in to hedonistic world of house and techno. Sven Väth’s story is steeped in history as much as his life was the catalyst for many that have come after him, but it is first visit to Ibiza in 1980 that proved to be the biggest influence on young Sven.
Sven then adapted this carefree way of living to every facet of his life and propelled Sven to pop stardom when his band Off became European hits almost overnight. While not confirming to the usual pop sensibilities, Väth was also continuing his work as a DJ and in 1988 at the age of just 24 Sven opened the infamous Omen nightclub, this would pave the way for all of his future projects and is considered to be the birthplace of techno in Germany. Sven Väth has launched several high-profile labels including Eye Q and Harthouse Records but it was the conception of Cocoon Recordings that has proved to be his longstanding legacy. What starting out as a record label grew over time to include a party series, booking agency and to now the globally recognised brand that it is today.
Sven Vath has been so influential to legions of fans and countless peers that he is often referred to as Papa Sven such is his long standing in the music industry. Largely due to his need for authenticity and quality Väth is one of only a few top touring DJ’s that still solely rely on the format of vinyl for his dancefloor ammunition.
