IN DEPTH WITH ANDREA OLIVA

IN DEPTH WITH ANDREA OLIVA
Ahead of his headline set at Soho Garden this Thursday (September  27th), we caught up with globe-trotting artist Andrea Oliva

How has your summer been?
Very busy but a lot of fun!

ANTS have obviously been huge everywhere it has gone, has one
particular show stood out?
I think every ANTS party around the world has its own special thing going on. But Ibiza has been something special this year!

What do you think is the hardest aspect of making the transition from resident DJ to headlining act?
I think there is no really hard aspect when the evolution of an artist comes naturally! The only thing I have to deal with nowadays are certain expectations, which is easy to handle once you show how passionate you are about what you do and when you give everything every single time you step on a stage, no matter if there are 100 or 10k people.

Do you think having your own productions is essential in the current climate?
It’s essential for every artist. You need to create your own trademark and your own identity. Being a copy of some other artist makes you only half an artist. I want to be me and the productions say a lot about me as an artist.

Playing all over the world on a regular basis, do you prepare for sets differently for each show?
I never prepare really. What I do is select great music :-)

Do you prepare specific edits of tracks for your sets?
I do edits now and then yes but it’s not really made for specific events.

What secret weapons of yours are doing damage in your sets right now?
I’ve been enjoying playing some of my upcoming music. Testing your own stuff is always exciting.

What releases of your own do you have coming up?
I have a Hot Creations release coming mid-October. After that there is a Play It Say It release scheduled and then hopefully I can put out some music on my very own label coming in the beginning of 2019.

You return to Dubai shortly to play Soho Garden, how do you find
Dubai measures up to the rest of the clubbing world?
It has changed a lot since I first played there 7 years ago. The hospitality and feedback after every gig in Dubai shows how much promoters and also clubbers care about music and DJs. The last Soho Garden show was great and I am very much looking forward to being back!

Andrea Oliva performs at Soho Garden, Meydan Road on Thursday, October 27th.
