360 TO CLOSE

360 TO CLOSE
News has been revealed that when Jumeirah Beach Hotel undergoes refurbishment at the end of this season iconic open air club 360º will sadly not return next season. The long-standing venue has been pivotal in the regions nightlife transformation and at one point embodied everything that was great and good about the electronic music scene here in Dubai. There are few duo’s that are synonymous with electronic music in Dubai, but audiotonic and 360º are two things that go hand in hand and one is rarely mention without the other. Mike Bufton and his steadfast crew of residents are in large responsible for bringing hot international talent to the region for the first time and in the process sowing the seeds for what would become a scene full of globally trained promoters and artists from all corners of the world.

Like most electronic music fans in Dubai, 360º holds a dear place in our hearts and it is a special place and you never forget the first time walking up the famous ramp. We reached out to some of our nearest and dearest to get their take on what the venue means to them and of course some of their treasured memories from years gone by…

Jack Woodcock (Sunstroke and 360º resident)
“It was a goal of mine to play at 360º just once, a dream to do Sunstroke there, a privilege to be resident DJ and an honour to play alongside the likes of Louie Vega, Joey Negro, Sam Divine, Frankie Rizardo, Sandy Rivera, Spen & Karizma and Jazzie B OBE. So many great DJ sets and memories. For a small club, out on a tiny island 360º for sure made an impact on nightlife in this country and world-wide.”

As a DJ moving from the UK to Dubai almost 4 years ago, one club here always stood out and that was 360º. The iconic shape, location, backdrop and the reputation it had for bringing the world’s best DJ’s to Dubai, it was unsurpassed. So, when I eventually got booked to play there in October 2015 it really was a turning point in my DJ career in Dubai. Although I was playing at large scale events in my home scene of Edinburgh on a regular basis, playing back to back with my good friend Somalie at Warehouse @ 360º was as if I had levelled up in my musical journey. I will always remember my first set at 360º.

CN Williams (Sunstroke and 360º resident)
I remember first being booked in 2006/7 for a night called ‘Revolve’ on a Thursday coming from the UK as the guest DJ. I fell in love with the club there and then and never dreamt of becoming resident all these years later, firstly with Sunstroke and then as full time resident. We have had some amazing nights, guest DJ’s and brands.  Stand out nights such as Soul Heaven with Louise Vega and Purple Disco Machine as well as Sunstroke with Grant nelson and Joey Negro are just some of the highlights.  I will never forget bringing in NYE for 3 years running, what an amazing honour and something I will never forget.

It was Thursdays at Trilogy and Fridays at 360, it was then the music family of Dubai that was shaped mostly from 360, but it was not all on the venue. It was 10 years of sweat of a dedicated team led by one man, Mike Bufton. Not many know what he did for this city, but whatever we have today is the aftermath of events like audiotonic. I met my wife there at a night with Spiritcatcher playing live. Whoever is living in UAE over 5 years have a personal connection to the place. All I hope is for this change to be a good one. Best of luck to the new team.
