JOKES ON YOU: HOW THE UAE GOT IN ON APRIL FOOLS DAY THIS YEAR!

JOKES ON YOU: HOW THE UAE GOT IN ON APRIL FOOLS DAY THIS YEAR!
Okay, we don’t even know where to begin with some of these April Fool’s Day pranks. Seems like brands in the UAE collectively decided to up their game this year. While some of these had us fooled as well (chauffeur-less drones did sound too good to be true!), we’re wondering if we were the only ones.

Namshi’s The Falcon Express

Have to admit, we didn’t quite know what to think of Namshi’s email on the 26th of March informing us about a ‘falcon delivery’ service with packages being delivered within three hours of placing the order.

Well, it sounded believable…only because we knew the birds wouldn’t be stuck in traffic! Jokes aside though, after Namshi’s follow-up message saying it was all a prank, we were quite pleased to hear about the brand’s partnership with Emirates Nature-WWF to support the falcons in the country along with the natural resources.

Also, if you use the ’FALCON’ code on the website, you can get a 20% discount until April 3rd – talk about an April Fool’s treat!

Uber Eats’ Mid-flight Delivery Service

Okay, this one was hard to ‘digest’ – Uber Eats announced a mid-air delivery service with a ‘winged courier’ bringing passengers their favorite dishes at 30,000 ft. in the air. The brand claimed to have developed ‘the first anti-gravity delivery tunnel’ that was connected directly with the airplane door.

Umm, you know, given the times we live in (self-lacing shoes, anybody?), it wouldn’t surprise us in the least if this actually became a reality someday – taking the phrase ‘on the go’ to a completely different level.

Dubai Opera’s Resident Ghost Intern

So far, so good. Time to bring out all the Halloween masks we thought we’d never need again. Also, time to re-watch all our favorite horror classics to come up with some more creative ‘ghouling’ ideas.

But wait, what’s that we see?! FREE accommodation…in Dubai?! Come on guys, now THAT just gives it away. April Fool’s Day cancelled!

Emirates’ Chauffeur-less Drones

Ohhhh man, this one got us good! But can you really blame us?! Maybe it was the thought of flying between any location in Dubai and Dubai International Airport that got us super excited. Or having two-fully enclosed First Class private suites all to ourselves.

When we just marking our calendars for the grand launch in April 2020, Emirates announced that it was all a part of their April Fool’s prank. But hey, never say never, right?!

McGettigan’s ‘Fear’ Less Drink

You know, there’s no point in wishing for super powers if you’re too afraid to use them. That’s why, when one of our favorite Irish pubs, McGettigan’s published this picture of their ‘Fear’ Less beverage, we didn’t even want to question it.

Claiming to eradicate any signs of ‘The Post-Night-Out Fear’, we couldn’t help but dream of all the things we’d finally be crossing off our bucket lists with our newfound fierceness. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. We'll hit the pub anyway to drink our sorrows away.

Lovin Dubai’s Ambassador Job

Wait till you see the perks of this job – besides a salary of AED 1 million per month – a Porsche Turbo worth AED 1.2 million, unlimited Deliveroo, Uber Eats AND Zomato credit, Emirates first class ticket, free Careem for a year, free helicopter chauffeur on call…okay, we’ll stop now.

Where are the chauffeur-less drones, though?! We want drones too!

Daft Punk at Groove On The Grass

Electronic fans in the city temporarily had their hearts racing when Groove On The Grass announced French duo Daft Punk as one of the headliners of their Season 7 Closing lineup. The party brand claimed the pair would be doing a 5pm warm up set before other headliners such as Rudimental, 808 State, Bill Patrick and Hollaphonic.

As we were just getting ready to break the news to our squad, the music fest released a follow-up post on its social media with the hashtags #AprilFools #Gotcha. Sigh. WHYYYY!

Deliveroo’s Crustless Pizzas

So, on March 31st, while we were enjoying a lovely afternoon, Deliveroo declared that all pizzas would now be crust-free! The reason for the controversial announcement? ”Crustomer complaints” – or negative feedback from crust-hating consumers.

As we were busy cursing the universe for ruining our favorite comfort food, we received a follow-up the next day saying it was all a prank. Whew! Order…restored.

Barasti’s ‘Washed-up’ Partygoer

When we first got wind of a partygoer sailing into Barasti Beach Bar on an inflatable rubber ring, we only had one thought on our minds – okay, make that two – will there be a movie? If yes, what would it be called?

So, as the story went, Brian Slade fell asleep on the ocean, over 30km away. Clueless about what had happened when he woke up, the ‘washed-up’ visitor said: “I just sat tight throughout the night and would occasionally see the odd light on the shore. The sight of Barasti as the sun came up is something I will never forget, and I can’t thank the staff enough for looking after me like they did.”

So, the next time you’re looking to get entry to the popular beach bar, you know what to do.

Wavebreaker’s Invisible Burger

Weight-watchers around the city were momentarily thrilled when Wavebreaker Beach Bar announced the launch of its brand-new invisible burger for AED 150 each.

The Hilton Dubai beach club had released the following statement: “Wavebreaker Beach Bar and restaurant to launch the healthiest invisible burger meal in town this April. Instead of consuming harmful calories, our skillful chefs will serve you an invisible burger for only Dhs 150 each”.

The popular restaurant recommended washing down the ‘healthy’ burger with their drink of the month – iced H2O.

Can we get that with fries, please?

Huda Beauty’s “Pawfect”

Hold on, fur-friendly lashes for doggos by the expert herself? Oh yeah, we’re sure they’d like to get their paws on that!

While you may be thinking, ‘who could have possibly fallen for that?’. Judging by the likes and views on Huda Beauty’s social media accounts, we’d say more than 170,000 people did!

Great job with the marketing campaign too!
