DUBAI MUSICIANS: OMAR DEAN

DUBAI MUSICIANS: OMAR DEAN
Dubai Night scours the city for the most talented musicians and asks them the questions that matter. This week we speak to Iris Dubai singer, songwriter Omar Dean…

Where did you learn your craft?
It actually came very naturally for me since I was very young- It was clear that I had a bursting love for music. However, I think what helped me learn more was definitely through self-trial and error and observing artists/musicians that I was inspired by.

Who inspired you most from an early age?
It was really anyone who was doing music for a living or was really good at it. Some famous some not. My teachers- my family- my friends. I found myself listening most and being inspired by Usher, Justin Timberlake and Prince.

How did you get your start in the music industry?
I had been trying for many years beforehand, but I think my official start would have been after my appearance on The X-Factor Australia. That’s when people took me more seriously and I officially started music as a career.

Did these experiences help shape your musical style?
Definitely, I think these experiences push you into uncomfortable situations that you are forced to learn and become better from so quickly. I learnt what I like, what I don’t like and found myself more in the process.

What has been your biggest musical achievement?
Performing at the Sydney Opera house and also being a finalist on The X-Factor.

You perform at Iris Dubai, what can we expect from a typical Omar Dean performance there?
You can expect a lot of bursting passion and energy in the room. Every week giving a 110% show and never less. A mixture of Soul, Pop, RNB. Prince/Miguel/ JT vibes.

What is the best and worst thing about living and working as a live musician in Dubai?
What’s most special about Dubai is that it is very diverse. So, you know you are always going to perform for different crowds and that keeps things exciting. Dubai is a great place to work on your craft and refine yourself as an artist, especially if you’re constantly performing in different environments, which most of us are. I’ve found that there’s no shortage of incredible talent in Dubai and with the amount of opportunities an artist could be comfortable in knowing they are always fulfilling their purpose out here. I have not yet had a negative experience, so far so good!

What new music do you have coming up?
I actually just finished filming my music video for my first official single release two days ago! So, you can expect new music very very soon. I am excited for this as It has been a long time coming- I have found an amazing team in Dubai who was able to help me bring this vision to life...
So, Dubai will definitely be hearing my music on their radios soon.
