DJ of the week - Tony H!

As being one of the most talented DJ's in the industry, Tony H is a very humble guy. He has been mixing his funky tracks since 1992 and he always keeps himself updated with the latest hits. He is the resident DJ for The Crystal Group, which means you can find him in hotspots as; EDEN Beach Club, 40 Kong and People by Crystal. Tell us more about your background?
I come from a background where house music left it's mark on my taste.

When did you start DJing?

I started to DJ in the early 90’s.

What/who were your early influences?
I used to follow the local DJ’s in my home country and also what we call 80's music got a big influence on my style, not to forget the big era of Eurodance.

What's you favorite tune of all time?
‘Music Sounds Better With You’ – Stardust

What was your first record you bought?
‘Big In Japan’ - Alphaville

What inspires your music today?
Swedish DJ's and producers and not to forget the UK legend Kryder.

What are the challenges of being a successful DJ Today?
It is very hard to maintain your identity in your music and at he same time satisfy your crowd, but if you know how to do it you will be a successful DJ.

What do you usually start with when preparing for a set?
I try to keep my sets updated with all the new hits and latest music, so every time I go to work it becomes a new challenge for me.

What defines a good crowd for you?
Every crowd is a good crowd all you have to do is read their taste carefully and try to play what they want to hear.

What is one mistake you see a lot of up and coming DJs making?
The most common mistake that everybody falls for is not separating their personal taste of music in terms of what the crowd wants.

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?
Don’t hide yourself behind commercial music and don’t get drifted away by the music you think it’s suitable for your sets, just go with the flow and keep your identity alive, it's very important.

Where do you think the scene is headed? One year from now? Five years from now?
Nightlife music is the sweet escape for everybody, the nightlife scene will be booming more and more for many years to come in Dubai, I think.

Tell us more about your upcoming projects and gigs?
As a resident DJ with the Crystal Group, I can say that a new project will see the ending light of this summer and I can’t wait to be part of it. Not to forget my upcoming summer rotation between Turkey, Lebanon and France of course.

Describe a typical day in you life?
12 hours of downloading music and producing.
